Civilian Displacement in Sudan’s El-Fasher Rises
A news outlet referencing local sources, indicated that approximately 62,000 people fled El-Fasher following the takeover of the city by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in late October.
Many have been moving toward Kurma, Tawila, and Garni in North Darfur, while thousands remain stranded along the route without transportation or support.
The report highlighted that several of the newcomers had to walk vast distances and endure harsh conditions before finally arriving in Al-Dabba.
Medical humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) appealed on Sunday for the RSF and affiliated armed groups to allow civilians to exit El-Fasher immediately, as the situation in the North Darfur capital continues to worsen with increasing abuses against residents.
“We urgently call on the RSF and allied armed groups to spare civilians and let them flee El-Fasher,” stated Michel Olivier Lacharite, MSF’s head of emergencies, in a declaration shared on the US social media platform X.
Lacharite also urged members of the QUAD—the United States, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt—to leverage their influence “to stop the bloodbath” in the city.
MSF emphasized that it is closely observing the situation and cautioned that the international community “cannot look away” as the humanitarian emergency in El-Fasher intensifies.
