WHO Chief Demands Halt to Massacres in Sudan’s El-Fasher
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the organization's director-general, took to the American social platform X on Sunday to condemn the ongoing carnage.
"Sudan's bloodshed must end," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus declared in his post.
The WHO leader expressed grief over the death of Dr Adam Ibrahim Ismail, describing it as another devastating blow to the El-Fasher territory. "Saddened to learn of the killing of Dr Adam Ibrahim Ismail in yet another tragedy for Sudan's El-Fasher region," he stated, emphasizing that the "WHO mourns the passing of Dr Ismail and demands an end to violence against health workers."
His statement concluded with an impassioned call for reconciliation: "Peace is the best medicine."
The Rapid Support Forces captured El-Fasher on October 26, carrying out ethnically-motivated killings, according to domestic and global watchdog groups. Experts warn the offensive threatens to cement a permanent territorial division within the nation.
A brutal civil conflict between Sudan's military and the RSF has raged since April 2023, resulting in thousands of fatalities and forcing millions from their homes.
