Head of WHO says “Sudan’s bloodshed must end”
“Sudan’s bloodshed must end,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on US social media platform X Sunday.
He expressed sorrow over the incident, stating he was “Saddened to learn of the killing of Dr Adam Ibrahim Ismail in yet another tragedy for Sudan's El-Fasher region,” and emphasized that the “WHO mourns the passing of Dr Ismail and demands an end to violence against health workers.”
Concluding his remarks, he appealed for peace, writing: “Peace is the best medicine.”
According to reports, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) took control of El-Fasher on Oct. 26, carrying out ethnically motivated attacks amid growing concern that the offensive could deepen the country’s division.
The Sudanese army and the RSF have been engaged in a brutal power struggle since April 2023, a conflict that has resulted in thousands of deaths and forced millions from their homes.
