US Denounces RSF Drone Strike on WFP Convoy in North Kordofan
A senior US official said the attack targeted vehicles carrying food supplies to communities facing famine. “The United States condemns the recent drone attack on a World Food Program convoy in North Kordofan transporting food to famine-stricken people which killed one and wounded many others,” the official wrote in a public statement.
The same statement described the assault on humanitarian assistance as unacceptable, adding, “Destroying food intended for people in need and killing humanitarian workers is sickening.”
The official further stressed Washington’s position on accountability, saying, “The Trump Administration has zero tolerance for this destruction of life and of U.S.-funded assistance; we demand accountability and extend our condolences to all those affected by these inexcusable events and terrible war.”
Medical groups reported that RSF drones struck the convoy in the Allah Karim area while it was en route to deliver aid to displaced civilians in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan. The attack was described as a “clear violation of international humanitarian law,” with warnings that such actions threaten already fragile efforts to provide life-saving assistance as conditions continue to deteriorate nationwide.
There was no immediate response from the RSF regarding the incident, according to reports.
Sudan remains deeply divided between rival forces. The RSF controls most of the western Darfur region, while the national army maintains authority over large parts of the south, north, east, and central regions, including Khartoum. Some areas of North Darfur remain contested.
Fighting between the army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and forced millions of people from their homes, worsening one of the world’s most severe humanitarian crises.
